SHARE YOUR STORY

Who knows your story better than you?  So why not share it!  You may end up helping others find some common ground.

Through the ongoing interviews that I've conducted for Cleaning Closets, so many people have disclaimed that their stories aren't very interesting.  Every time, though, I'm intrigued and amused.  No one's story is boring.  There are always similarities in the struggles and triumphs, yet every story is unique.

There are multiple ways to share your story:

  1. Write it!
    • Think about a specific time when you came out to someone.  Or a specific time when someone came out to you.
    • Put your thoughts into words.  (Remember to be respectful of other's privacy--just because someone is out to you, doesn't mean they are out to the world!)
    • Post your story on the Cleaning Closets Facebook page.  -OR-
    • Email your story to CleaningClosetsChicago@gmail.com with the subject "My Story" for the chance to see it featured on the website.
  2. Video Record it!
    • Think about a specific time when you came out to someone.  Or a specific time when someone came out to you.
    • Talk about it on camera.  (Remember to be respectful of other's privacy--just because someone is out to you, doesn't mean they are out to the world!)
    • Upload it to YouTube.
    • Then share the link with CleaningClosetsChicago@gmail.com so that we can add it to a playlist on our YouTube channel.
  3. Let me interview you!
    • Contact the creator Jonathan Mayo.
    • Set up a time to interview in person or via video chat!
    • Jonathan will then interview you at the scheduled time.  He will video and/or audio record the interview so that he can look back and transcribe it.  You can allow him to use your image, or ask to remain anonymous.
